We use cookies and similar technology to provide a better experience, improve our services and understand how visitors engage with our websites and apps
This notice explains why we do this and tells you how to prevent or limit our use of these technologies. We will revise this cookie notice every now and then. Please check it from time to time to take notice of any changes we may make. If you have any questions please contact us at [email protected].
About cookies
Cookies are small text files that are downloaded and stored by your browser on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies usually have a unique ID, which lets our website recognise your device, and they store information about your choices, preferences and activity on our website and may send that information back to us.
We also use ‘local’ or ‘web’ storage cookies, a standard technology provided by web browsers. It enables us to store persistent data on devices, similar to cookies, but with much larger capacity and, unlike the cookies described above, information typically is not sent back to us.
Cookies may be necessary for a website to function properly, or may be used to improve performance, give you a better experience when you browse our website and for advertising. These categories are explained in more detail below.
Essential cookies
Our website needs some cookies to function properly. These are known as ‘essential’ cookies (aka ‘strictly necessary’ cookies). We usually set them in response to an action you have taken or to ensure our website runs smoothly and is secure and protected from fraud. We use them to manage our website and provide services you have requested and to to maintain the security and integrity of our service.
While we can’t switch them off, you can set your browser to block or alert you about them; but if you do block them our website may not work properly.
Performance cookies
Also known as ‘analytical cookies’, we use these cookies to count visits to our website, know where website traffic is coming from, see how visitors move through our website and to work out the popularity of each page. They give us the information we need to improve our website. We use them for research purposes to improve our products and services and to understand user behaviour and to improve performance.
Functional cookies
We use these cookies to remember the choices you make and to tailor our services to those choices, for example to remember your chosen language. They also allow us to provide enhanced features (such as show you videos). Functional cookies may be set by us or by third parties whose services we have added to our website.
Advertising cookies
We use third-party providers to display advertising on our services, serve advertising on other websites that may be relevant to you and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. This means that after you have visited our website, you may see advertisements relating to our services on other websites.
These cookies work by uniquely identifying your browser and device and using that information to build a profile of you to show you relevant adverts on other websites. You may still see our adverts on the internet if you choose not to allow these cookies, but the adverts just won't be personalised or targeted at you.
Similar technology we use
We use technologies that, like cookies, are used to collect information to help us understand how people use our website and apps and how we can improve them and keep them secure and running smoothly.
Web beacons
Also known as ‘pixels’ or ‘tags’, these are small images or code placed on webpages and may also be embedded in adverts and emails. They allow us to determine whether you performed a specific action, for example when you landed on a specific page, interacted with an ad or opened an email. We use them to measure interactions with our marketing communications and promotions, as well as to improve our website.
Software development kits (SDKs)
Some SDKs contain features that work similarly to cookies and trackers, but operate in the mobile app environment where cookies and trackers cannot function as effectively. We install SDKs (basically small pieces of code) of our service providers to perform functions similar to those performed by cookies described above, such as monitoring the performance of our apps, keeping them secure, detecting and preventing fraud and analysing how people use our apps and services.
The information we collect
We collect information about your use of and interactions with our website, apps and services. This includes the pages and sections of the website or app you interacted with, the date and time of your interaction, the websites you come from and navigate to, your browser and device information and your IP address.
Typically, this information alone cannot be used to identify you. If, however, the information is used to personalise your experience, it may be possible to identify you and, therefore, may be considered personal data under the applicable local law and processed in accordance with our privacy notice.
Who places cookies on my device?
Generally speaking, cookies can be classed as either first or third party: first party cookies are set by the website that you are visiting whilst third party cookies are set by someone other than the website you are visiting. We utilise both first and third party cookies.
Lifespan of cookies
The length of time cookies stay on your device depends on whether cookies are "persistent" or "session" cookies. Session cookies will only stay on your device until you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your browsing device until they expire or are deleted.
